announced today that in the next year it will add over 5,000 new part-time employees in its Virtual Customer Service program, which allows workers to provide telephone customer service to Amazon customers from home. Overall, Amazon plans to add more than 30,000 part-time jobs over the next year, and over 100,000 full-time jobs in the U.S. over the next 18 months.

In addition to the convenience of getting to work from home, Amazon’s virtual customer service reps who work 20 hours or more per week receive benefits, including various insurance benefits as well as having Amazon prepay 95 percent of tuition “for courses related to in-demand fields,” according to the announcement.

In addition to Virtual Customer Service jobs, Amazon says it will add more than 25,000 part-time jobs in facilities where employees sort and consolidate customer packages.
